There are several new developments in our area parks. The Portland Timbers are building two artificial turf soccer fields in Pine Nursery Park. Lancaster Street park is being completely redone and a new park in North Pointe is in planning stage.
The big soccer fields developing in Pine Nursery are funded by the Portland Timbers under a long term lease with Bend Parks. The $2.3 million project will be used for Timber's practice and for their youth program. More them 30 youth teams in Central Oregon are part of the professional soccer club's program to provide coaching and play for children.
The Lancaster Park, originally constructed by a private developer, is being redesigned by Bend Parks and Recreation which took ownership last year.
On Wellington Street a new 2.8 acre park is in design phase and is expected to be completed by 2021. It will be a neighborhood park. Bronwen Mastro, a park planner, solicited ideas for the park from BANA residents at as recent meeting. Seventy persons completed the on-line survey to determine what residents want in the park.
"Safety was the number one attribute," she said. Shade also ranked high so trees will be part of the landscape.
