Council Makes Fireworks Ban Permanent

Responds to Long Time Citizen Concerns

At the Oct. 6 meeting the Bend city council voted to make the sale and use of fireworks in the city permanent.

In other business the council adopted all of the amendments to the development code as proposed by the planning staff. There was no discussion of the issue of how to incorporate more  Middle Housing in city neighborhoods.  The changes brings the city into compliance with new state law that outlaws Single Family Housing zones. The change does not affect HOAs with covenants on multifamily units.
Council also heard some heated testimony opposing the proposed managed camp on 9th Avenue. Mayor Russell directed the participants to a website on the project for more details on the process of finding a location for a managed camp for homeless persons. No vote was taken.
The city will proceed with plans for a Public Works campus on Juniper Ridge by adopting the "progressive design/build" process for contracting for the project.
