Protect Your Pets and Property from Pesticides
Barbara Rumer, Bend resident, has been tracking this legislation and the effort to remove pesticides from our land and waters.
“Most of us want safety for our children, our pets and ourselves,” she said. “As an owner, if you opt out, you also agree to do your own weeding.”
The bill offers an opportunity for all HOA boards to review and negotiate their landscape maintenance contracts so as to prohibit the use of certain chemicals. Rumer provides some valuable sources of information on pesticides and what chemicals to avoid.
An example: [CONTRACTOR NAME] agrees to only use non-toxic alternatives to typical toxic herbicides like those found in the Products Compatible With Organic Landscape Management document, published by beyondpesticides.org
Here is a link to the bill.

Development in the Works for Old Farm Neighborhood
The City of Bend’s Growth Management Division is planning for the development of 261 acres of land on Bend’s east side. This project is in response to House Bill 3318 recently passed by the Oregon Legislature.
Addressing housing affordability and creating more housing in Bend is a City Council priority. The Stevens Road Tract project offers a unique approach to adding land to the Urban Growth Boundary for affordable and market rate housing.
