Residents aired their concerns and views about policing in Bend at the City Council’s online listening session Oct. 17. Several offered suggestions about changing the current model to one of community policing that incorporates counseling and mediation with law enforcement.
One example identified is the city of Eugene’s community policing model which is reported to save that city $8.5 million.
Suggestions included having a citizen review board to oversee police complaints.
The Zoom session was moderated by Erika McAlpine and comments were recorded in real time for all to see.
